O inglês Jenson Button, pilotando a BAR 007, cravou o melhor tempo desta sexta-feira em Jerez de la Frontera. O colombiano Juan Pablo Montoya, da McLaren, ficou com o segundo tempo, seguido por Michael Schumacher, da Ferrari.
Os brasileiros Ricardo Zonta, piloto de testes da Toyota, e Enrique Bernoldi, piloto de testes da BAR, ficaram com o 8º e 11º tempo, respectivamente.
